MAYWOOD (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A former NFL player whose mother was found dead in west suburban Maywood last month is now in custody.
Maywood Police said Sergio Brown was taken into custody while re-entering the United States via San Diego from Mexico.
San Diego Police along with other agencies took Brown into custody after a warrant was issued for first-degree murder in the death of his mother Myrtle Brown.
Sergio Brown is now awaiting extradition to Maywood.
On Saturday, September 16, when family members and authorities were unable to locate Myrtle nor Sergio Brown, both were considered missing persons.
After a brief search of the residence that the two shared in Maywood, Mrytle Brown’s body was found near a creek not far from the residence.
Sergio Brown, 35, is a graduate of Proviso East High School and played defensive back for Notre Dame and played seven seasons in the NFL with the Patriots, Colts, Jaguars, and Bills.
