(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Residents across the far western suburbs spent the day cleaning up damage caused by what officials believe was the touchdown of multiple tornadoes.

Some of the worst damage was reported in Sycamore, in Kane County.

Chris Linneman and his wife, Melody, had been building a new house on their farm when a tornado ripped through their property Monday.

“We had a million-dollar project, and we have to start over,” Chris Linneman said.

That’s because the frame of the structure was pushed into a slant and is no longer stable.

Fortunately, no one was hurt, and all of the farm animals are okay.

But the damage was extensive. A milk house, which had all of Chris Linneman’s tools, was uprooted.

“I have three canoes,” he said. “I found one, it was sticking out of the side of the house. The other two, I have no clue where they are.”

Friends and family members were on the scene helping to clean debris.

The damage was bad, too, less than 10 miles away at Breezy Acres farm in Maple Park.

Farmer Mike Dienst recalled seeing a lot of flying debris, churning in the air. A silo was sliced in half, tin siding from the barn flew into the front yard, and multiple cars were crushed by debris, he said.

A 30-acre cornfield was flattened by the tornado.

"It's going to be a nightmare to harvest because everything is down so bad," he said. "Some of its twisted laying one direction, or in another, and it's going to be hard to harvest it.”
