(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Robert Crimo Jr., whose son is accused of killing seven people and wounding 48 others during the 2022 Highland Park Fourth of July Parade, has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection.
Several families of the mass shooting victims have sued Crimo.
On his bankruptcy application, Crimo listed more than $1.5 million in debt and assets of more than $600,000.
Earlier this year, Crimo pleaded guilty to helping his son get a Firearm Owners Identification card despite knowing his son was potentially dangerous.
The father spent 27 days in Lake County Jail — just under half of the 60-day sentence he received after pleading guilty to reckless conduct. He was released a few weeks ago.
His son remains in jail, awaiting trial for the mass shooting.
