(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An extra-alarm fire engulfed a company that makes cabinets and countertops in far-southwest suburban New Lenox Thursday.
The fire was at the Tri-Star Cabinet and Top Company, which is located on South Cedar Road near East Illinois Highway.
Marisa Tomich, a spokesperson for the New Lenox Fire Protection District, spoke to WBBM about the fire.
“When our first engine arrived on the scene, they did notice heavy smoke and fire from the building, and it was upgraded to a full-still response at that time,” Tomich said. “All of the employees were evacuated, and no injuries were reported.”
Because the fire caused so much smoke, Tomich said officials have been in contact with the Environmental Protection Agency and added that air quality in the area is being tested.
“We are continuing to monitor the area just to make sure that everything is at safe levels, and it continues to remain safe,” she said. “If anything should change, we’ll definitely be making some notifications.”
Tomich says firefighters from several neighboring communities were called in to help put out the fire.
