(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Telehealth provider Choix announced on Wednesday that it will provide abortion pills to patients so that they can keep them on hand for future use.
The service will be offered to people living in states where Choix is licensed to operate, including California, Colorado, Illinois, Maine and New Mexico, as well as to people who travel to these states for care.
Working with a team of health care professionals, patients using the telehealth service will be able to acquire abortion pills before they are pregnant.
The medication can then be used at a later date to end a pregnancy at up to 11 weeks.
In a statement, the clinic’s co-founder and CEO, Cindy Adam, called it a crucial step toward expanding abortion access given the Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
“By offering advance provision in combination with telehealth, we’re proud to continue to alleviate financial and logistical barriers to abortion care and support people’s decisions about their bodies, their families and their futures,” Adam said.
