Fish tank floods store, kills fish and causes concerns for small business

A huge fish tank burst at a pet store in the far northwest suburbs, leading to an "ocean" of trouble.

Nicole Georgean and her husband own Something Fishy Pets in Fox Lake, and she tells WBBM on Monday afternoon they heard a noise that sounded like a firework and "we realized the front of our two-thousand gallon fish tank blew out! And there were over 350 fish in that tank, so we just instantly went into 'save the fish mode' and saved as many as we could and water started seeping out the foundation of the building, out the front door."

Sadly, most of the fish - there were many varieties - could not be saved.

Replacing the massive fish tank will cost about $40,000.

Nicole and her husband are talking to their insurance company, and there's a Go Fund Me as well.

Georgean said "(we have) a great community here, everyone's been coming to help us.
