COOK COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Cook County residents whose homes or businesses were damaged in flash flooding this summer are being encouraged to file an appeal on their property taxes with the Board of Review.
Commissioner Larry Rogers Jr. encourages people who were flooded on the west side of Chicago and areas of Berwyn and Cicero between late June and early July to apply.
"We want ensure that all Cook County residents with damage resulting from these floods have the information they need to properly file for an appeal, so they're paying no more than they should be paying," he said.
Commissioner Samantha Steele said even if your township isn't currently open for review, you could pre-file an appeal. She advised residents to show photos of the damages and that appeal services are free.
"I'm imploring you...please file. We can't help you if you don't file."
The commissioners and analysts with the Board of Review are hosting public events to help people file and Rogers said the board will consider evidence from flooding this weekend on the south side and south suburbs as well.
