(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Cook County Health officials are sharing new information about what illnesses you should be looking out for this post-holiday season.
Dr. Rachel Rubin with Cook County Health said doctors are most concerned about the flu, more so than COVID or RSV.
"It is going up very, very fast right now, and it's about ready to surpass emergency room visits compared to COVID,” she tells WBBM Newsradio. “Influenza is the one that is the most worrisome at the moment, in terms of the number of emergency room visits, and especially in young children. "
She urges everyone to get the flu vaccine. This year's match is about 50 percent of the strains that have emerged, which Dr. Rubin says is what experts usually aim for.
She said people who get vaccinated could still get the flu, but it would lessen the effects.
And in terms of the other two diseases, Dr. Rubin says COVID cases are rising and RSV is beginning to plateau.
