A federal embezzlement case has landed a Frankfort woman with a one year prison sentence.
Carmita Coleman was sentenced Wednesday by a U.S. district judge in order to pay just under half a million dollars in restitution after she pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $650,000 from a national student organization.
Coleman was the executive director for the organization between 2011 and 2016 and was tasked with improving minority representation in the pharmacy industry. According to court documents obtained by the Daily Southtown, she was responsible for managing its finances at the time.
Coleman was also a professor and interim dean at Chicago State University's College of Pharmacy but no funds were reported embezzled from the university.
