A woman was charged with murder in the fatal Gage Park stabbing of an infant girl this week, Chicago police announced Sunday.

Tatiana Maxwell, 25, faces charges of first-degree murder and murder with a strong probability of death or injury.

Nyhnia Stovall was less than a year old when she was stabbed Friday in the 3000 block of West 59th Street around 7:20 a.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. She was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Maxwell, of Gage Park, allegedly jumped from an upper-level window of an apartment building and was injured, police said. She was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center and was taken into police custody.

It’s unclear if or how Maxwell was related to Nyhnia.
