CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - It’s almost a week after Election Day, and the race for Cook County state’s attorney in the Democratic primary remains undecided.

Just 2,015 votes separate Eileen O’Neill Burke and Clayton Harris III, according to unofficial results.  Sunday’s counting of mail-in ballots further shrank O’Neill Burke’s lead.

Meanwhile, the spokesman for the Chicago Board of Elections apologized over the weekend for an error in reporting how many mail-in ballots they received a week ago.

Public Information Officer Max Bever said it’s not an issue of missing or newly found ballots, but rather a failure to include some 9,000 ballots in sharing with the public the total number of ballots received a week ago.

There are 54,000 outstanding mail-in ballots, but it’s not clear how many will be returned to the board by the deadline, which is a week from Tuesday.

The winner will face Republican Bob Fioretti.
