CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A child has died after a suspected carbon monoxide leak in Albany Park, on Chicago's North Sidewest this morning.
Chicago Police said when they responded to a home near Gunnison and Sacramento at 5:15 a.m. they found an unresponsive 10-year-girl. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Chicago Fire Department spokesperson Larry Langford told WBBM a 12-year-old child was also taken to the hospital in serious condition.
"We find that the levels inside the building, 300 PPM [parts per million] for carbon monoxide, that's high, and over several hours, that can be a fatal reading," Langford said.
He said most carbon monoxide detectors, which are required in the city, will go off at 10 parts per million.
Chicago Police are conducting a death investigation.
