(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A confined coyote in the northern suburbs is getting a new home, but some say that's not good enough.
Some animal rights groups have been concerned for "Rocky," a coyote that lives at the River Trail Nature Center in Northbrook, which is run by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County. Lately, the animal has not been seen.
Forest Preserve officials have an explanation. They tell WBBM Newsradio that Rocky has been temporarily moved from public view because construction on a new, larger open-air enclosure has begun.
“He’s comfortable and being cared for by the people he knows. Our plan is to move him back soon,” a spokesperson said.
Brittany Michelson with the group In Defense of Animals has long said Rocky should be moved to a sanctuary in Colorado.
“Enlarging his cage is not a solution to the problem,” she said.
