CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some Chicago area high school athletes were busy being nice on Sunday.
Sunday kicks off National Random Acts of Kindness Week and students from high schools throughout the area were committing kind acts like handing out flowers and cards to hospital patients.
Letzy Guerrero is a senior at Chicago Bulls College Prep and was handing out cards and flowers to strangers near Ogden and Racine.
"I'm out here, because I want to spread some kindness and love to everybody since Valentine's (Day) is coming up-you know gotta show support and love to everybody in the world, especially Chicago."
Alma Cruz was also handing out cards and flowers at Ogden and Racine. She is a Community Event Organizer for Buddy's Helpers and was with members of the Chicago Bulls Prep girl's soccer team.
"Valentine's Day is all about love, about friendship, about spreading kindness in general and what a great way to get something you didn't expect to get and put a smile on your face when you least expect it," she said.
Litzy Vasquez, another senior at Chicago Bulls College Prep said the students "want to show the world that there's still some kind people out there," despite the infamous reputation Chicago has for violence and crime.
Students at Maine South High School in Park Ridge were also among those taking part in the "day of kindness."
