CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The high wind warning is expected to continue for another few hours in the Chicago area and temperatures are starting to drop.

The National Weather Service reports winds of 74 miles an hour just off the lakefront at the Chicago water crib. They were in the upper 60 miles per hour range elsewhere, 68 miles an hour in Waukegan and 66 miles an hour at O’Hare Airport with winds of 62 miles an hour in Rockford.

The wind was strong enough to take down a large tree here in the Uptown neighborhood in the 1300 block of West Argyle Street outside St. Augustine College. The falling tree had bent the overhanging portion of a street light and damaged a few cars.

More than 14,000 homes and businesses are without electricity right now, according to the ComEd outage map.
