(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A DuPage County judge set bond at $600,000 for a 52-year-old Willowbrook man who was accused of shooting at another vehicle, after the driver of that car honked at him in Burr Ridge.

The shooting happened on Thursday afternoon, said officials with the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office. Antonio Garcia-Dealba was waiting in the left-turn lane at the intersection of 91st Street and Kingery Highway. When the left-turn light turned green, though, officials said Garcia-Dealba didn’t move. That prompted the driver behind Garcia-Dealba to honk their horn.

Garcia-Dealba responded by “extending his middle finger” at the driver behind him, prosecutors said. After making his left turn, Garcia-Dealba allegedly pulled over to the right side of the road, slowed down and shot at the victim’s vehicle as they drove past him.

Officials accused Garcia-Dealba of firing once — and striking the victim’s car on their rear passenger door — before fleeing the scene.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said no one was injured in the shooting. Garcia-Dealba was charged with one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, which is a felony.

Burr Ridge police officers arrested Garcia-Dealba later that day at his home.

In March 2023, the Illinois State Police announced that expressway shootings in Chicagoland increasingly involved road rage in 2022 compared to 2021.

The best way to handle aggressive drivers, state police said, is to let them pass, give them plenty of space and avoid eye contact.

Garcia-Dealba’s next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 11, 2023.
