(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — With the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) boys basketball playoffs already underway, the team at Chicago’s Kenwood Academy is waiting on the bench as the IHSA determines whether it’s eligible to take part in the state playoffs.
Kenwood Academy, located on the South Side, was supposed to host a regional semi-final state playoff double-header on Wednesday, but the IHSA postponed Kenwood’s game over concerns that the team used ineligible players this season.
The IHSA board of directors will meet Thursday to determine whether Kenwood has a student eligibility problem and, if so, what to do about it.
IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson said in a statement that the timing of this decision is unfortunate and added that the IHSA feels for all impacted teams.
Anderson said if an ineligible player is discovered to have played for Kenwood this season, the consequences could be significant.
