CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — One of the Democratic candidates for Illinois secretary of state has a proposal that might appeal to some people’s vanity.

Former Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, who now is running for secretary of state, wants to give people a choice when they renew their driver’s licenses or state IDs: If they don’t like the first photo that’s taken, they can get up to three retakes... at $10 a take.

Giannoulias’ campaign said the money would go to “a new driver safety fund to support education, safety and training programs.”

Giannoulias also wants people to be able to bring in other photos for driver’s licenses or state IDs such as passport photos if they meet state guidelines.

Aldermen Pat Dowell and David Moore and Chicago City Clerk Anna Valencia are among the other Democratic hopefuls for secretary of state.
