(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Illinois now has its highest number of COVID cases since last winter.
The latest numbers from the Illinois Department of Public Health are a bit sobering, as COVID hospitalizations reach their highest rate since February. IDPH is reporting more than 27,000 cases over the past week, including 48 deaths.
Federal officials say 28 counties in Illinois are now rated at High Community Level for COVID-19; this includes DuPage and Lake counties. The Chicago Department of Public Health said Cook County has improved to Medium Community Level after being in the High Level the last two weeks.
State health officials are also urging parents and guardians to get children vaccinated, especially small children under 5.
And for everyone, the advice remains much what it has been for more than two years now, including wearing a well-fitting mask inside public spaces, regardless of vaccination status.
