Illinois celebrates manufacturing in annual ‘Makers Madness’ contest

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – What’s the coolest thing made in Illinois?

Astro-Physics Telescopes? NFL helmets? Or maybe Kraft Mac and Cheese?

The Illinois Manufacturers' Association is holding its third annual “Makers Madness” contest to find out.

“This is one of my favorite days of the year,” IMA President and CEO Mark Denzler said Wednesday. “We’re here to celebrate our industry's resilience and innovation and ingenuity by highlighting amazing products made right here in the Land of Lincoln.”

The bracket-style tournament lets the public nominate and vote for the coolest thing made in Illinois.

“Manufacturing makes the world a better place to live every single day,” said Denzler. “Whether it's a large, iconic product or a smaller, lesser known good, these are all critical to the Illinois economy.”

Previous winners include the 797F Mining Truck made by Caterpillar, Inc. in Decatur and the Self-Regulating Traffic Signal Heater by Termico Technologies in Elk Grove Village.

Each week contenders will be narrowed down, ending in an awards ceremony on April 27.

Nominations are open through March 20 and can be made at MakersMadnessIL.com.
