(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Children in Illinois five years old and younger can now receive free books, with the help of one country music superstar.

The Imagination Library is a partnership between the state and recording artist and philanthropist Dolly Parton.

The state's new budget allocates $1.6 million to take part in the project, which Parton started in her home state of Tennessee in 1995.

The Dollywood Foundation says more than 2 million books per month are currently distributed, with each child receiving one free book per month.

The program is open to all children in the proper age range, regardless of family income.
