(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Indiana's gas tax is about to hit the highest level in state history.
Starting in May, the gas taxes in Indiana will total 74.5 cents-a-gallon. That’s the combined total.
The Department of Revenue, under state law, calculates the state’s tax based on the average price of gas the previous month. So, it’s going to be 10% higher than April’s tax and 60% higher than it was in May of last year.
The tax rate next month will be 24.1 cents-a-gallon, which is still considerably lower than the tax in Illinois.
