(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Nearly two months since a 13-year-old girl was reported missing in Gary, Indiana, police officers and the FBI executed a search warrant over the weekend in connection to her disappearance.
Gary police said Ja’Niyah McMichael was reported missing on Aug. 11, 2024. She was last seen at her home near 19th and Virginia Streets. Her mother Dalia Guerrero said everyone went to bed the night before, and Ja’Niyah was gone in the morning.
Guerrero described her daughter as a “very sweet, loving girl.”
The police department said it was “limited in additional details that can be shared publicly.” In a social media post shared over the weekend, though, officials said they are working with the FBI, the Department of Child Services, Indiana State Police and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Authorities cautioned residents from sharing unvetted information that could hamper their investigation.
