A power outage led to an act of inspiring kindness in the south suburbs.
It was during Monday's heavy storms when the power went out at the Family Dollar on South Halsted in Homewood, and Corey Armstrong told WBBM, "...the lights went out, they came back on, the system was down, a lot of people were looking to pay with (credit) cards (but) didn't have cash on them."
But luckily, Corey Armstrong did, saying, "I took it upon myself because I know that's what the Lord would want me to do and took care of...all the people that were in the store and their purchases...I did it because I was supposed to do it."
Armstrong, 38, is not sure how much money he spent, it might have been as much as $400.
"I just reached it into my pocket and grabbed what I had and gave it to the cashier and told him 'just take care of everybody that's coming up,’ I didn't receive any change back, he tried to give me some change back but then there were other people coming in so I just told him give it to them."
Armstrong, who is spending most of his time these days caring for his family, including his ailing grandmother, said simply, "I always try to pay it forward, the best I can."
Power was out, and he was the only one with cash.
