CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Mayor Brandon Johnson says he hopes Governor Pritzker's budget proposal includes substantial investments in Chicago's strength and future.

Mayor Johnson will likely be presiding over this month's City Council meeting while Governor Pritzker is delivering his State of the State and Budget address.

But, the mayor said he has already made his wishes known to state officials and other mayors. It's about funding.

Johnson said he would like to see more Sate financial support for education in general, and bilingual and special education in particular.

The mayor told reporters he also wants to see more funding for public transportation.

“As many people know,  the distribution of resources for the Chicago Transit Authority do not match our economic input…We want to see more equity around there,” said Johnson.

He and other mayors have pleaded for an increase in their local governments' share of state income tax revenue.
