Joliet city leaders approved a $37M incentive deal this week to bring a massive new sporting goods store to a new mixed-use development.

The Dick's House of Sport proposed for the Rock Run Collection is a 120,000 square foot store on two levels with an indoor climbing wall and outdoor turf field.

Vincent Corno, senior vice president of real estate, called the store "a beacon for the community" and the project.

He says the 15 other locations with a field, including one in Champaign, host birthday parties, summer camps, yoga classes and other events.

Council members approved a general obligation bond that the city says will be issued as the project meets milestones and will be paid off through sales taxes generated at the site.

The retail, residential and entertainment development near I-55 and I-80 is about 45 miles from downtown Chicago and currently home to the Hollywood Casino.

At 310 acres, it’s slightly smaller than the old Arlington Park property now owned by the Chicago Bears.

“Rock Run Collection represents a transformational investment in Joliet’s future, and Dick’s House of Sport is a game-changing anchor that helps the development reach its full potential,” Mayor Terry D’Arcy said in a statement.
