CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) —This May is one of the driest on record in the Chicago area, and it follows months of lower-than-normal rain totals.
Trent Ford, Illinois State climatologist, said since March a weather system in Canada has retained much of the rain that normally falls in our area just south of Chicago.
He said rainfall totals in the northern half of the Chicago area since March are as much as 7 inches below normal.
This could end up being the second-driest May the city has ever recorded.
While more rain is expected in the next couple of months, it may not make up for the shortfall since March.
