DUPAGE COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A letter signed by police, prosecutors and school officials addressed the issue of school threats in Aurora and Naperville.

The letter was shared on the Naperville Police Department's Facebook page Wednesday.

It reiterated that the fact that both communities have been the victim of several threats in recent weeks involving schools in Naperville District 203 and Indian Prairie District 204.

"This is highly concerning", stated the letter. "These threats have caused significant disruptions to our learning environments, diverted substantial resources to investigate, and eroded parents’, students’ and staff members’ confidence in their schools being safe environments."

Authorities wrote in the letter that while they continue to investigate recent events, they need community members' help specifically parents.

Parents were asked to discuss the topic of school threats with their children "in an age- appropriate way" including the the seriousness of making threats against an individual or a school community.

"Children need to understand that there is no such thing as 'joking' about bringing a weapon to school, planting a bomb, initiating violence against another, or causing general chaos," stated the letter.

Community members were also asked to report any credible information regarding the threats to law enforcement or school officials.
