(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two combatants in the Chicago mayoral race were painting very different pictures of the city's business climate and public safety.

In a speech to the City Club of Chicago on Tuesday, Mayoral Challenger Paul Vallas described Chicago as a great city "drifting" into crisis. He said high crime is giving businesses second thoughts about coming or staying here.

But in an interview on Bloomberg Television, Mayor Lori Lightfoot said companies are looking at the whole picture. They're coming here and even expanding operations, she said.

Lightfoot conceded people are concerned about crime but says the city has made progress in reducing it.
