Lightfoot's investigation reveals Dolton in financial disarray, racking up more than $3M deficit

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot presented the preliminary findings of her investigation into the finances of the Village of Dolton Thursday night.

There were gasps at times among residents who packed a meeting.

The former mayor and federal prosecutor said there’s a deficit of at least $3.5 million, and there are checks that have been written, totaling nearly $6 million, that the village can’t pay.

Lightfoot said the village is not following state law by filing annual financial reports. She said “receipts for credit card purchases are rarely provided.”

There were tens of thousands of dollars spent online in a single day.

“That’s roughly $40,000, a little more than that, in credit card purchases on Amazon,” she noted.

Lightfoot also found that police overtime was a problem. Two officers nearly doubled their salaries.

“This has been a challenging investigation to say the least,” Lightfoot said, noting the lack of cooperation from the administration of Mayor Tiffany Henyard.
