(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A life at sea isn't as outlandish as you might think.

Many people fantasize about retiring to a smaller home in a warmer climate or a home in a community surrounded by neighbors who are at the same stage of life, but there's a growing number of people who live on cruise ships in retirement.

"It's the choice of you can live on a cruise ship or you can go to senior living and why would you choose senior living over a cruise ship if that's an option," said Cindy Richards, Editor- in- Chief of She Buys Travel.

She tells the Noon Business Hour that there are enough people that at least one cruise line is selling a line of shipboard condos.

Richards also said that you can start out by sitting down with a travel agent and mapping out different back- to- back cruise itineraries.

Another plus to living on board ship is racking up cruise credits and other rewards.
