It appears to be battle of the boybands on the first day of Lollapalooza; the contenders — Australia's 5 Seconds of Summer and Filipino boyband SB19.

"We wanted a decent spot, but we weren't anticipating being the first ones here. It just happened," said Taylor Goude and Mia Voice.

They said they traveled from Columbus, Ohio for the festival to see 5 Seconds of Summer. They said they were the first fans lined up, arriving around 6:15 a.m. Thursday to secure the best spot for the band. Doors opened at 11 a.m.

"They're our favorite band," they said. "They always put on such a great performance."

Crystal Guintinas arrived shortly after, around 7:30 a.m. She said she wanted to make sure she had the best spot for SB19, a Filipino boyband and the first Filipino group to ever perform at Lollapalooza Chicago.

"I think I might cry because it's my first time seeing them perform live at all," she said. "We're really proud of them. So we're here to see the history in the making."

Thursday's headliners include Lorde and Chicago-area native John Summit. Fans say it's created a bit of an internal battle.

"The Lorde and John Summit debate has been a little rough," said one fan. "I think I have to do John Summit. I saw his Instagram story that it was going to be his best set he's ever going to play because he's been waiting for Lollapalooza his whole life. But also, it's Lorde!"

But she said whoever she ends up seeing, it'll be a great weekend either way.

"It's like nothing else," she said. "Everyone's just so excited to experience music in the same place, and it just reassures me that music is the thing that I love more than anything else."

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to descend upon Grant Park this weekend. Headliners for the rest of the weekend include Charli XCX, Tate McRae, Olivia Dean and The Smashing Pumpkins.
