Carolinas may be great low-cost option for spring break trips

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- If you're looking to save money on a spring break trip this year, North and South Carolina might be a good option to consider.

Cindy Richards of SheBuys Travel in Chicago tells the Noon Business Hour that North and South Carolina are low-cost alternatives to Florida and Hawaii.

She also said that visitors won't pay premium prices or have to navigate large crowds, especially in spring break. "I think the Carolinas are beautiful. There's gorgeous beaches and then there's a lot more to do there."

North and South Carolina also have more to offer than just spending time at the beach.

"It's great for foodies, there's amazing barbecue and of course sea food," Richards said.

There are also a number of "very interesting" historic sites from the scene of the Wright Brothers' first flight in North Carolina to the site and the first battle of the Civil War at Fort Sumter in South Carolina.

"I think there's a lot going on in the south in terms of reconciling their history," she added.
