(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A baseball autographed by an MLB legend has finally been "thrown home" in the western suburbs.

Wheaton Police Department Property Control Officer Brian Lipowski found an unusual item in the evidence room: a baseball signed by Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan. As a former college baseball player himself, Lipowski wanted to determine who may have lost such a treasure.

The baseball was found in a local park in 2021.

With the help of the Wheaton Park District, Lipowski was able to determine which youth baseball teams were playing around the time the item was found.

It turns out the coveted baseball belonged to a coach’s son.
The son has it back, and now it’s case closed.
