CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Zero Waste Games initiative at Loyola University of Chicago aims to bring sustainability awareness to a new audience.

Originally a one year initiative started by students, Zero Waste Games is an effort at Loyola's Gentile arena that provides composting and recycling options at all events.

Aaron Durnbaugh is the Director of the Office of Sustainability at Loyola.

"It really starts with the materials that are at the concessions stands themselves, so we a variety of concession stands set up around the concourse and the arena, so thinking through those materials and making sure they're easy to recycle and compost," he said.

Durnbaugh also said this initiative allows Loyola to spread its message of sustainability even further.

"This is a new audience we get to engage, those who support the ramblers or our opposition, so we get to find a way to connect with them around sustainability topics that are so important to Loyola."
