CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There may not be a long farewell for the Macy’s on the Magnificent Mile as the company prepares to vacate the Water Tower location.
Over the weekend it was clear that any sense of a meaningful shopping experience in the Magnificent Mile retail anchor store that once elegantly occupied seven floors of the Water Tower Place has faded.
With large signs on the front windows promoting a 70 percent off sale with extra savings tacked on, the store is all but gutted by now, with just a few items still up for grabs. Hungry bargain hunters may find some women's' fragrances or undergarments and men's suits and dress shoes.

Some location specific closing sale coupons expire April 24, but the seven floors of retail space are now nearly empty with display furniture, sales racks, and mannequins up for grabs as part of the retail giants liquidation of the stores inventory before making their final exit from Chicago’s Magnificent Mile.

Some employees told WBBM Newsradio that Macy’s has offered an opportunity for them to transfer to other nearby stores, and some will take them up on that offer, but others said they will now focus on a different career.
