PARK RIDGE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Police remain on the scene after a man barricaded himself inside a house Thursday evening.

According to Park Ridge police, a man in his 40s entered a home on Austin near Fairview at about 7:20 p.m. and threatened his elderly parents.

The couple already left the house by the time officers arrived, but the man remained inside, possibly armed and threatening to harm himself.

All evening, officers attempted to establish communication with the man. However, as of 8 a.m. the situation remained active.

Police stressed the public is no longer in danger and are free to move about in the neighborhood. Except, residents are advised to avoid Austin Avenue until the situation is resolved.
