CHICAGO (WBBM Newsradio) – A Chicago man charged in the fatal shooting of a UPS driver on the city’s South Side is due in court Monday for a detention hearing.
Xavier Wilson, 37, is charged with one count of first-degree murder in the death of 36-year-old Michael Hunter, according to Chicago police.
Authorities say Hunter was shot around 12:30 a.m. March 22 in the 8000 block of South Hermitage Avenue in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood.
Police allege Wilson was the gunman. He was arrested April 24 in the Loop by Chicago police and members of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Hunter’s family said he had just returned from a UPS delivery shift and was speaking with others about his stolen car when he was shot in the head. He had worked as a UPS driver for three years and was a father of three.
Wilson is scheduled to appear at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse for a detention hearing. No additional details about the circumstances of the shooting were immediately available.
