A 33-year-old man has been charged after police say he physically and sexually assaulted three women Thursday afternoon in downtown DeKalb. Officers arrested the suspect a short time later, with police saying he was completely naked.
According to the DeKalb Police Department, officers began receiving multiple 911 calls around 1:15 p.m. reporting that a woman was being physically and sexually assaulted at the DeKalb Public Library.
As officers responded, additional 911 calls reported another woman was being assaulted near the DeKalb Farmers' Market. The two locations are roughly a half-mile apart.
Investigators said officers located three women who had been physically or sexually assaulted during the incident. Two of the victims were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the third declined treatment, according to police.
The suspect was also transported to a local hospital for what police described as a narcotic medical evaluation before he was released into police custody.
The DeKalb County State's Attorney's Office identified the suspect as Maurice Kemp II, 33, and approved 12 felony charges. The charges include one count of attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault, two counts of attempted criminal sexual assault, one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, two counts of criminal sexual abuse, three counts of aggravated battery on a public way and three counts of unlawful restraint.
Police have not released additional information about the victims or said what may have led to the alleged attacks.
