CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - There was more violence on the CTA on Tuesday night, this time a stabbing committed by a woman.

The latest incident occurred on the Red Line on the North Side at about 10:30 p.m. According to police, a 37-year-old man was on a southbound train when he got into a verbal altercation with a woman. Both got off at the Fullerton stop and police said the woman had something sharp. It's unclear if it was a knife.

They say the woman slashed the man's neck twice, causing lacerations, and then ran away. The man was transported to Illinois Masonic where he was initially listed in serious condition.

This follows a string of violent incidents on CTA property that the transit agency's President, Dorval Carter addressed last weekend.

"I want to assure you that we are doing everything that we can to stem these egregious acts," Carter said.

Carter spoke after a murder on a Red Line train. Chicago Police Supt. Davide Brown on Saturday as well, said they're addressing violence.

"We are collaborating with the CTA to enhance safety for our riders and we know the CTA is vital. No resident should think twice about their safety on any part of the CTA," Brown said.

The city's plans include bringing back security guards with K9's and more police officers on the transit detail.

The Sun-Times reported last week that the number of violent crimes on the L and buses has jumped to a level not seen in over a decade. Through July 19, 488 attacks had been reported on the transit system — the most since 533 during the same period in 2011.
