ELGIN (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - An autopsy has revealed the body of a man found by police in an Elgin home Sunday morning was stabbed to death.

The Kane County Coroner's Office announced that 33-year-old Gerardo Hernandez died of multiple stab and cuts wounds. Hernandez was discovered by officers at home on Preston and Columbia avenues. Police were originally called at 7 a.m. to a house at Summit Street and Hiawatha Drive to conduct a well-being check. There, the Daily Herald reported officers found a man and arrested him on unrelated, outstanding warrants.

Officers then went to the man's aforementioned home on Preston and that is when they came across Hernandez's dead body.

The investigation remains ongoing, with the coroner's office noting toxicology results from the victim are still pending.

Elgin police initially believe this appeared to be a domestic incident.
