TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - A 23-year-old western Indiana man has pleaded guilty in an attack in which he entered a home last year swinging a nail-studded wooden club, leaving two women with facial wounds and injuring three other people.
Chelton R. James was to begin trial Monday but he entered a plea agreement Thursday on one count of aggravated battery with nine years to be served in prison and three years on home detention.
The Tribune-Star reports the Terre Haute man had originally faced a charge of aggravated battery causing permanent disfigurement, three counts of battery by means of a deadly weapon and one count of burglary.
Multiple witnesses told police James forced his way into a house in March 2020 and repeatedly swung a nail-studded club, striking two women in the face, one man in the head, one man in the shoulder and another man in the hand, the Tribune-Star reported.
One of the women was transferred to a trauma hospital due to the severity of her injuries, the newspaper reported.
