CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- "World Read Aloud Day" was celebrated across Chicago today Wednesday including at the Legler Regional Library, a Chicago Public Library branch, on the 100 block of South Pulaski.

Chicago author Natasha Tarpley joined Mayor Brandon Johnson to read to about 30 young children and was asked about her probably most famous book "I Love My Hair."

She said that book is over 20 years old and "it's celebrating the things that make us unique especially our hair, our identity, our cultural identity."

"For me as an author, it's so wonderful to see that my books may be kind of bringing joy to kids," she added.

Johnson and Tarpley also read from one of her newer books, "The Me I Choose To Be."
