CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Meals on Wheels Chicago has spiced up its menu and is now offering cooking demonstrations.

Cory Morris with Meals on Wheels performed the demonstration Wednesday at the Levy Senior Center on the 2000 block of W. Lawrence.

He said it's important to get older Chicagoans out of the house.

“This is definitely one of the benefits of this activation in particular…We’re getting people to these senior centers, which we’re lucky enough to partner with the Department of Family and Support Services, and they’ve invited us in to let us do fun activities like this,” Morris said.

The cooking demonstrations are taking place at five regional senior centers throughout Chicago once or twice a month.

Wednesday's demonstration featured pan roasted Brussels sprout salad, and cauliflower couscous salad.

Senior Carla Holliday said you can always learn new things in the kitchen.

“What’s good about it, people that’s diabetic or hypertensive, the meals coordinate. The calorie count is at the bottom, you know if you could meet or you can’t meet it,” Holiday said.
