CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The Chicago Police Department has lost another member to suicide, according to the medical examiner who has released information about Saturday's death.
An autopsy showed 52-year-old Edward Dougherty died from a gunshot wound to the head.
The sergeant, who was found inside a home in Mount Greenwood and declared dead at 8:20 a.m.,had been with the police force for nearly 25 years.
Supt. David Brown called it a tragic situation and stresses the need for the force to prioritize mental and emotional health.
Back in 2017, the Justice Department found Chicago's police suicide rate 60% higher than the national police average.
