CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Leaders at Metra have approved a 2023 budget, and that appears to be good news for riders.

In approving the new budget, Metra leaders recommended no changes to 2023 fares or the overall fares structure.

“Which means that we want to hold with the Super Saving, $100 monthly pass, which is $70 for a reduced fare,” one leader said. “We also would like to retain the $6 and $10 day passes, which are popular, and make no changes to the current, one way, ten ride Saturday and Sunday day and weekend pass prices.”

The move received plenty of praise from Metra board members.

“We know that right now, we made the right decision for the time we’re in and the environment that we’re in.”

Leaders also suggested that new, enhanced schedules will be rolled out for certain lines in the coming weeks.
