(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Lake County area recruiter for the U.S. Marines faces child-pornography charges after investigators found illegal images on his cellular device, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Authorities circled James R. Wallace, 35, after they received a tip about “an individual having access to a digital drop box that contained illegal images,” the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

A search warrant and forensic analysis allegedly revealed child pornography on Wallace’s cellular device. He is charged with four felony counts of child pornography possession, prosecutors said.

Wallace, an active duty staff sergeant with the Marine Corps, turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest Tuesday, prosecutors said. His bond was set at $500,000.

Wallace is next scheduled to appear in court Sept. 9. Anyone who has concerns about whether Wallace had inappropriate contact with minors is encouraged to call police.

“We will never stop searching for these offenders in every corner of the web and the county. These cases are a top priority for our office,” State's Attorney Eric Rinehart said.
