(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Students at Homewood-Flossmoor High School are planning to walk out of the south suburban school Thursday afternoon following allegations that one of their peers was sexually assaulted by a fellow student earlier this week.

The mother of the alleged victim wants to know why no teacher checked in when her daughter was not seen or heard from for about 20 minutes when she was sent to rehearse lines with a boy in her theater class.

Stephanie White, an attorney for the parent, says District 233 has a systemic problem of sexual assault.

White says they are exploring their legal options and don't want to interfere with the criminal investigation.

Students held walkouts in March after other assault allegations surfaced.

A District 233 spokeswoman tells WBBM Newsradio they made sure consent and sex abuse lessons are taught with fidelity after meeting with students last spring.

Regarding Monday's allegations, the district says staff responded immediately and followed all relevant school and legal protocols.
