(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — More information about the proposed redevelopment of the United Center campus have been detailed in a new presentation.

The $7 billion “1901 Project” would turn the parking lots that currently surround the Bulls and Blackhawks arena into a mixed-used campus.

The project is being spearheaded by Bulls President and CEO Michael Reinsdorf and Blackhawks Chair and CEO Danny Wirtz.

New details have also been released about a proposed timeline for the project, which has been split into five phases. Phase 1, which focuses on the southwest corner of the arena, could be completed by 2028.

Projects that are currently in Phase 1 include a music hall, plaza, parking lots and a hotel.

The next phase would develop the northern side of the United Center, bringing residential and retail developments. That is currently projected to be completed in 2031.

Phase 3 is to the east and south of the arena. This area surrounds a potential new CTA stop.

New renderings depict a proposed Pink Line station off Paulina Street between Madison and Monroe streets. However, project developers note that more coordination with the Chicago Transit Authority is needed to make that aspect of the project a reality.

Phase 3 could be finished in 2034, according to the current plans.

Phase 4 includes a residential highrise on the northeast side and is slated to be completed in 2037. The final phase, which includes developments west of Damen Avenue, is currently estimated to be completed by 2040.

Phase 1 is projected to create over 1,000 permanent jobs.

The plan is being presented on Jan. 16 to the Chicago Plan Commission, and needs approval to move forward.
