(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Cyber security experts say there's new information about the possible source of an online attack that recently brought down phones, email and other tech at Lurie Children's Hospital.
Various reports suggest the attack might have come from Rhysida, a known online threat actor that has targeted health care providers.
A statement released by Lurie says the hospital is aware of claims by a group identifying itself as Rhysida.
Cyber security experts say the group has threatened to release key information obtained from the hospital to anyone who pays the group 60 bitcoin, or roughly the equivalent of $3.5 million.
A spokesperson for Lurie says the hospital continues to work closely with law enforcement and leading security experts but added that details of the investigation cannot be shared.
Cyber security advisors are urging healthcare providers to boost their online defenses and prepare for potential cyber threats to protect the safety and privacy of patient information.
